One of the most challenging of human endeavors is parenting. To bring up a child or family is one of the toughest assignments that we undertake. And it's not so easy being the child either. And yet it is a task for which so few of us are adequately prepared.

I believe that psychology, education, literature, religion and science has a huge amount to offer in terms of teaching us about how to be better parents. So I like to draw upon all these sources of human knowledge in thinking about parenting, and in designing parenting workshops.

I do not think that there is only one approach to parenting - and while I tend to utilize more behavior management approaches, this is not exclusive of other parenting strategies. Flexibility is important - and in my experience there has to be a good fit between parenting style and a parent's personality.

In the coming months I plan to develop this part of the website to provide articles, links and book reviews of some of the thousands of parenting books that exist.

Free Introductory Workshop

Often, the main topic of  conversation of parents will be about the challenges of parenting their child. So let's have the same discussion, but in a parenting workshop format.

Get a group of 4 or 5 pairs of parents (you'll need babysitters), and let's have a parlor meeting. I'll provide an introduction to parenting aimed at meeting your interests and age groups.

This one-off introductory session will not cost you anything - for three reasons:

1) It gives you a chance to meet me.

2) It gives me a chance to deal with real everyday issues (I spend a lot of my time doing research)

3) I really believe in the utility of talking about parenting in an informed way
